Think of the intro to Mr. Brownstone. That searing, Bo Diddley drum beat and then Slash’s guitar. The hands and feet behind that beat belong to Steven Adler, the drummer for Guns N’ Roses from 1985 to 1990. Born Michael Coletti in Cleveland, he moved to Los Angeles where he became friends with Saul Hudson because of a skateboarding accent. Saul Hudson became Slash, Adler learned to play drums and in 1985, Adler became the drummer for Guns N' Roses - lighting up the Roxy and The Troubadour in 1985-1986, then signing with Geffen Records in 1986. Appetite for Destruction wa a huge hit, followed by G N’ R Lies. The band sold tens of millions of albums and were huge but ironically, Adler had problems with Mr. Brownstone, which lead to his dismissal in July of 1990. Adler had his own appetite for self-destruction which lead to many years of lawsuits, overdoses, rehab, jail, assault charges and Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew - who declared Adler the ‘problem child’ and ‘suicidal.’ From addiction to induction, into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April of 2012. In July of 2016, played onstage with his mates for the first time since 1990. Reunited and it sounded so good.
